Clement Moore

Short Biography: One of America’s most enduring and popular poems, Clement Moore’s The Night Before Christmas has been delighting each new generation of readers since 1823. Moore, then a professor at General Theological Seminary, wrote the poem for his own children a year earlier. The poem was first published in the Troy (N.Y.) Sentinel under its original title, A Visit From St. Nicholas.
