Cronin does not disappoint her youngest readers with her newest book. When Boom, the bear, and Twitty, the robin, disagree about the best place to spend their day, it is up to Snot, the snail, to bring them together. With the gentle persuasion of snacks, Snot chooses just the right spot. Tavia Gilbert’s soothing and lilting narration is perfectly paced for early listeners. The accompanying of sound effects of beach and hiking are sweet additions. Renata Liwska’s beautiful pencil illustrations soften Boom and Twitty’s disagreement. Verdict This peaceful story is a tender addition to shelves of bedtime stories everywhere.

Leave it to Tavia Gilbert to provide a narration that enriches this story of friendship, disagreement, and resolution. With three distinct voices for the three friends--a high-pitched bird; a gentle, growly voiced bear; and a low-pitched, slow-to-speak snail--Gilbert invites young listeners on a day's adventure. Boom prefers an outing to the beach with flippers and a tube; Twitty, the mountains with binoculars and boots. But what about Snot? And where does the trail of blueberries lead? Pregnant pauses, gentle music, and precisely placed sound effects--the blowing up of the tube and the click of a camera, for example--add to the drama and verisimilitude of the story.
