"This work provides a simplified yet engaging overview of many facets of Mother Nature, including hailstorms, tornados, sandstorms, and hurricanes. Listeners will learn that sandstorms in Australia are called willy-willys and that a hurricane on Jupiter called the Great Red Spot “has been blowing for more than 400 years.” The large text, beautiful photographs, and eye-catching titles and captions offer young readers an effective resource on storms. Dion Graham’s rich and melodic voice, combined with a sound track of storm sounds, completes the experience. VERDICT Whether needed for demystifying storms or increasing knowledge, this read-along set is a perfect introduction to the topic."

Narrator Dion Graham's steady, precise voice enables the information in this book about storms to take center stage. With even volume and pacing, Graham highlights the myriad weather patterns that "cool and heat our planet so it is just right for life." Thunder and lightning, blizzards and tornados, sandstorms and monsoons are explained for young learners as well as the adaptations animals and humans have carried out for living in various weather conditions. Interspersed with the weather facts are jokes, which Graham presents in a deadpan tone: "What did one lightning bolt say to the other? You are shocking." But listeners will surely chuckle. With book in hand, young listeners will pore over the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC photographs, and learn.
