"Dana Lubotsky is as "in your face" with her narration as Amber Brown is with her thoughts and feelings. Lubotsky is loud, firm, and opinionated—all in a true-to-character way—and very childlike in voice. In this adventure Amber is dealing with her mother's impending remarriage, her father's behavior in the face of the upcoming event, and her classmates' and dear friend Justin's varying views on weddings, which are not necessarily helpful. Lubotsky's words tumble out as fast as Amber thinks them, and she uses pregnant pauses and travels her vocal register to express Amber's feelings. Listeners will be right there with Amber through this whole episode."

"Narrator Lubotsky, the familiar voice of Amber Brown, returns in this splendid addition to the late Paula Danziger’s popular series. As Amber’s mom plans her wedding to Max, Amber is excited about being “best child.” However, her father’s unhappiness with the situation makes her feel stuck in the middle. Still, she has a speech to write and the perfect dress to find. Lubotsky excels at narrating the voices of children, and she reads slowly and carefully to allow children to follow along easily. As Amber talks about her feelings, Lubotsky conveys the emotions of the situation. Background music adds to listeners’ pleasure. Flute and harp music play as the wedding music is planned, and, as a bonus, the musicians then play a tambourine and hurdy-gurdy. The performance is so good that the book’s illustrations are not missed."
